Introduction
The relevant Bill was published on 30th March, 2020, passed by parliament on 22nd April, 2020 and assented to as law by the president on 25th April, 2020. The Act was meant to legalize the tax relief measures that were issued by the President on 25th March, 2020 with the objective of cushioning individuals and corporations against the economic adversities associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. However, on an analysis of the Act, it is apparent that it introduces other tax revisions, predominantly with the intention of balancing the expected government revenue deficits from the earlier announced tax relief measures.
